I went to Uni on Monday to help students from 2nd year by setting up their degree show. Loads of things were going on that morning. Students had occupied different spaces and were planning layouts, paint for the walls etc. I went to the Lower Street Gallery and tried to be little help to the students there.
Loads of shelves and stands had to be build and painted. So, the first day was all about painting them white. But before we painted them, we sanded the racks as they were made of wood.
These are the stands that we painted. Approx. 17 stands were needed. The plinths were also wooden and had a nice texture. However, after we painted them white, the texture was not striking anymore which was a real pity.
One thing that I really liked was that the students involved me in the work straight away, even though I didn't know them. They explained to me what the plan was and what they wanted to do first and while painting, it was a kind of team work because two or more people were painting one stand.
I really enjoyed being there. This experience provided me an insight into preparing the degree show and this was very useful because this year, my course will prepare a degree show on completion of the course.
